<p>The official definition of snoring is the rough sounds that are produced when the soft palate and other tissues located in the mouth, throat, and nose vibrate. Even though men tend to suffer from problems with snoring more frequently than women, both sexes are affected by this condition. A blockage somewhere within the airways of the nose, mouth, and throat causes the sounds we call snoring.</p>
<p>Causes</p>
<p>There are several different common causes of snoring. Airflow gets to be more forceful when your airways get compressed and made smaller. This occurs during sleep most commonly instead of while you are awake because sleeping makes your soft palate relax.</p>
<p>The shape and design of your mouth is a big factor in whether or not you will be a snorer. Individuals with large tonsils and thick or low soft palates are much more likely to have problems associated with snoring. Drinking alcohol before you go to sleep is another common cause of snoring.</p>
<p>How To Deal With It</p>
<p>Snoring is a serious problem because it both the person who is snoring and also their loved ones, especially the loved one who shares a bed with the snorer. In fact, sleeping with a chronic snorer can cause a person to develop sleeping problems of their own, especially insomnia. For this reason, it is important to treat a snoring problem instead of just ignoring it.</p>
<p>There is a vast array of available stop snoring products on the market. For people with more serious snoring issues, there is also surgery to stop snoring. Such a procedure can only be recommended by a medical professional. If you have already experimented with a variety of stop snoring products available over the counter without finding success, it might be wise to contact your doctor and ask about surgery to stop you from snoring. <p>This is certainly not a dangerous condition, at least not for the most part, but it can definitely be frustrating and annoying to deal with. <p>The causes of snoring can be either physiological or lifestyle-induced. Some of the common causes of snoring include excess body weight, too much alcohol drinking, smoking, improper sleeping positions, deviated septum, chronic nasal congestion, among others. Treating snoring usually depends on what is identified as the causes of snoring and the extent of the problem.</p>
<p>For lifestyle-induced snoring, it will take commitment and dedication to lessen or stop your snoring. However, lifestyle changes are far easier to implement. If your snoring is caused by excess body weight, then you should go on a weight loss program as soon as possible. Your excess weight narrows your airways. Eat healthy foods on time. Do not overeat and avoid night-time snacking. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, and taking sedatives hours before you sleep. Try to sleep on your side with your head elevated at the same time every night.</p>

Check if there are any sleep diagnostic facilities near your area. Remember, you might have to bring along your partner. Some sleep centers will ask them questions about your snoring to get a full picture of the severity of your snoring problem. You might also get checked and tested for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or other sleep disorders.</p>
<p>Other people who are diagnosed with a deviated septum are often recommended to undergo surgery to improve their condition and stop them from snoring. If nasal congestion is a chronic problem for you, make sure you do steam inhalation before you sleep at night. You need to clear the nasal passages to breathe easily; otherwise, it will keep you snoring while you sleep. You should also consider buying snoring aids that come in different forms &#8211; oral tablets, nasal and throat sprays, and nasal and throat strips. Like steam inhalation, they all work to make nasal breathing easier. Just remember that snoring aids are not used for people suffering from sleep apnea. <p>Avoid alcohol and nicotine. Smoking and alcoholism worsen snoring. Smoking causes changes in the tissue walls in your respiratory system that can block your breathing passages. Alcohol intoxicates your system and induces you to heavy sleep that is often accompanied by snoring. Avoiding the aforementioned substances is one the most effective home remedies for snoring.</p>

It may be that the throat is tensed, the tongue is pushed back into the throat, the nose is congested, or there is a misalignment of the jaw to cause restriction of airflow. When this happens, the soft palate of the back part of the mouth vibrates thus making a person snore. Clearing the blocked passage way is the only way to stop or minimize snoring. This can be done by doing exercises made especially for this problem.</p>
<p>The aim of stop snoring exercises is to strengthen and relax the jaw, tongue and throat so that they are positioned in a natural way when the snorer is asleep and not block the airflow, as also to keep and maintain a healthy body that breathes like it was supposed to.</p>
<p>There are two basic categories to the stop snoring exercises. The first type includes the common exercises that promote general fitness and well-being. Such exercise programs may include brisk walking, slow to medium jogging, bicycle riding, dancing, swimming, and low-impact aerobics. Being active infuses fresh oxygen to the brain and muscle tissues, which in turn makes a person healthier in mind and body.</p>
<p>Being inactive has led to a chain reaction of unhealthy lifestyles such as overeating and eating junk food, alcoholism, smoking, drugs, and other harmful practices. Obese people and smokers make up majority of chronic snorers.</p>
<p>The second category of stop snoring exercises is the more specific kind that is directly beneficial to freeing up the airway passages of the throat. One such way is by pressing your tongue to the upper base of your mouth, by opening and closing the mouth for a few counts as if yawning, and by  mimicking chewing movements with a closed mouth.</p>
<p>Snoring is our body’s way of telling us that something is wrong within us, so it is best to start heeding the sign while it’s still early.
